Mini Obstacle Course / Jungle Gym / Climbing Gym for your Kids

A year ago we build the worlds greatest swing set, which has been a SMASH hit on YouTube the children and their friends. The only way I could think to make the swing set even better was too add on some more activities!

Design

This obstacle course was designed to be built completely with pressure treated lumber that is available at your local home centers or lumber yard. If you would like to build this course (plans available below) I highly encourage you to search out a lumber yard as you will get better pricing and WAY better quality lumber compared to the home center. And you can probably get it delivered for under $20!

Information

The total cost of the build, lumber, screws and all accessories was $810, at least in my neck of the woods. The total cost will very a little depending on the lumber cost in your area.

The total build time was 10 hours but, regardless of the time spent it is absolutely worth the effort when you see how much your children and their friends will enjoy playing on something you built for them!

Thanks to one of your diyvideos I was able to construct shelve in a space surrounded by concrete walls.
I did pantry shelves and built in storage in the boys closets.?

  2. Hi Tyler

Love your videos and plans. Thanks for your great work. I’ve bought the plans for the obstacle course and started building it. The best wood that I could get for it at a local timber yard is cypress pine which should look good and work well. When ordering the wood however, I was told that it wouldn’t be good for the Island platforms because they would crack if cut so wide and as circles. Can you recommend a wood replacement for the island platforms?

    1. One of our islands actually cracked as well! My plan is to simply use two layers of wood and cross the grain to add strength.

Hi Tyler! These plans are amazing! What do you recommend doing to anchor the play structure down? It can get a bit windy where we are and I am a little concerned about it tipping. Or should I not be worried?
