When we moved into our house, almost two years ago now, there was a slimy little table in the laundry section of our basement that we left there and have been using ever since. The wife kindly suggested that, now that I have some woodworking toys, I make her a nice little laundry table for holding the soaps, dryer sheets, iron and other miscellaneous stuff.
Below is what I came up with. Decided to keep pretty much the same footprint as the table that was there the only addition being another shelf. After building it I don’t know why we didn’t opt to make it bigger so that my wife could fold on it but the thought has been planted to make a bigger table with drawer/baskets underneath for folded clothes…another time.

Materials List
- 2 ½” Wood Screws (Drywall Screws)
- 1” or 1 ¼” Pocket Screws
- 2 1/2″ Pocket Screws
- Quantity 4 2x4x8
- MDF Board or plywood for counter top
- Paint if you want to paint the table
Tools List
- Miter saw
- Circular Saw [to cut MDF, or use table saw]
- Table saw to rip 2×4 for edging. Or just buy 1×3
- Drill
- Kreig Jig
- Clamps
Base frame (above) assembled using 2″ drywall screws
Shelf support (above) mounted to base frame using 2 1/2″ pocket screw. Had an issue with the original drawing that had to be fixed here but in the end it worked out okay. More details later…
Ripped a 2x4x8, the 4 inch way to basically make 3/4 x 3.5″, and it was a dusty mess. Be sure to use a respirator if you have one. This fiasco led me to the next couple projects that will be on this site
Hardware is shown in x-ray view (above.) All assembled using 2″ drywall screws and some pocket screws; 2 1/2″ for the shelf supports and 1 1/4″ for the edging.

A couple little mistakes to learn from, like the tape measure rivets to keep an eye on, but in the end it was a simple fun little project that made everybody happy! One thing of note, after returning the 10″ sliding Kobalt miter saw that I used to cut the stock for the toddler bed (returned because when using the sliding motion it would not cut square) the 12″ DeWalt saw that I ended up getting (for the same price I might add…thanks Lowes price matching) this table came together much squarer. Am very please that we decided to go with the 12″ miter saw, much more accurate and sturdy.

Yea! those little rivets are a pain, but remember to measure twice and cut once.
